Imagine waking to the sound and smell of the ocean, the breeze of salt on your face, with orange hues in the sky. A typical morning in a Surf camp el salvador is like this. If you haven’t tried surfing yet, this place may just blow your mind and steal your heart.
The small, vibrant country of Central America is quickly becoming a destination that surfers must visit. El Salvador is home to some of best surf spots, which offer consistent swells for beginners and experienced surfers. La Libertad’s right-hand break is a popular spot that offers an adrenaline boost to surfers. La Libertad has a feeling of an undiscovered jewel, with fewer people, which makes the surfing experience more exciting and personal.
Let’s move on to the camps themselves. These are not your typical holiday destinations. Here, passion meets adventure. Imagine a group surfers gathered around bonfires and exchanging stories under the stars. They’re all sharing the excitement of catching that perfect wave. Campers cheer each other on with a symphony.
Chris, one of my friends, just returned from a surfing camp in the area. His experience there was, to use his words, “otherworldly”. He’s been surf for years. The instructors are the best in the business. The instructors at these camps aren’t just there to make sure you’re afloat. They want to help you transform from a novice into a pro. Chris swears that they make learning easy as silk. You can learn by living right next to the ocean. The waves are your ever-patient instructor.
Let’s take a break and talk about the food. Surf camps have realized that the only way to someone’s heart is via their stomach. Your plates will be adorned with fresh seafood, tropical fruits and Salvadoran dishes. Imagine eating a Pupusa (a thick corn tortilla with beans, pork or cheese) after an intense surfing session. It’s comforting food that fuels your passion and warms your heart.
There’s much more to this adventure than surfing and delicious food. El Salvador is rich in culture and historical heritage. The morning might begin with surfing, but the afternoons will take you to ancient Mayan ruin or volcanoes. You might take a detour and visit a local craft market where you can haggle for handmade items.
It is not uncommon for the camp community to be a melting pot. This is where you will meet people from different backgrounds. The mix is beautiful. One minute, you are chatting with an Australian backpacker, and the next you’re laughing along with a Canadian group. The mix is beautiful chaos. It’s a magical mix – shared stories, diverse experiences and newfound friends.
Tanya shared with Chris, a fellow camper he met during Chris’ stay, her story on how she overcame her fear of oceans. At first, she was as nervous as an agitated cat on a hot roof. But the supportive environment at the camp made a huge difference. By the time she left, she had mastered how to ride waves. Her journey is a testimony to the power of these camps.
Evenings in the camp are equally enchanting. The sunsets will leave you spellbound. As each day comes to an end, the sense of satisfaction grows. You feel like your worries are fading away. Dinner tables are filled with lively conversation, laughter fills up the air, and children’s excitement is evident as they plan the surf for the following day.
